This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all

Typical bank holiday weather here ! Pouring with rain and set in for the day, unusually for me I did not sleep well I kept clock watching and seemed to see every 1/2 hour go by, I normally sleep solid for 9 or ten hours so I assume Im anxious about oversleeping for work. Part of me is glad to be going back and getting into a proper routine though.

DD and her boyf are cooking tonight, I am not sure what yet but there is plenty in that they can choose from. House is fairly tidy but could do with a quick wizz round.

OH and I have started watching Vikings on Netflix we are really enjoying it a lot of it is set around this area so we are recognising a lot of the names, its not for the squeamish though as there are lots of battle scenes and blood and gore :D

Right I had better get myself ready for work, fingers crossed its a quiet day.

Have good days all xx

Good morning, and thank you Redruby for starting off.
What a cold, wet, dreary morning it is here, though we knew it was forecast.

We went up to Alnwick Gardens yesterday, to see the changes that have occurred since our last visit, about 6 weeks ago. Everything is much further on, of course, and the cherry orchard is in bud. A couple of years ago we managed to visit on a beautiful spring day when it was in full bloom, and it was heavenly to walk through it. There was loads of bird activity, and the rooks were nest building. There were a lot of visitors too, with several coaches in the car park. All in in all a thoroughly nice day.

DS and family are coming over today to see the baby, then coming on to us for tea. i invited DD and co for tea as well, but they are going to take the baby to visit her partners Grandma.

I'll nip out this morning to visit an elderly friend, who is just a few minutes walk away, then I'll be home to cook. I thought I'd do lamb shoulder steaks for a change, we always seem to be eating mince or chicken when they come for a meal.

That's my day ahead, hope everyone else has a good day. Thoughts and hugs to the poorly and worried.

    Take care folks.

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread RR. No wonder you are anxious, I hope you are alright today.

No bank holiday in Scotland so things chug on though students have a two week break. That means I’m still in bed!

Today is the 20th anniversary of the death of my beloved Dad. Hard to believe it’s so long. He was a funny man who wanted the best for his children and nothing for himself. In 1998 the second of April was Good Friday, I remember driving from the hospice to DM’s house having to stop a few times to sob.

On a cheery note all’s well here. I slept well despite the sky bring cloudless and that blue moon shining through the house. There’s no curtains upstairs (and the one set in the living room are never closed). I woke for a wee to find the rooms so bright.

I wish everyone a peaceful, restful and (especially RR) a stress free day. Happy Monday.
  • Morning folks and thanks RR for starting us off. I hope today at work is a peaceful one for you.

Well the forecast was right, we have heavy snow falling and that damned white covering is once again accumulating. Will this winter ever end? It seems to have been winter forever.

Fortunately we have no plans for today to be disrupted by the weather. I must strip the bed once Mr TA vacates it, get that washed and draped around upstairs. The heating is on so it should soon dry.

I might make a start on emptying some of the higher kitchen cupboards today. The kitchen fitters are due to start on the 16th but we can't leave the cupboard emptying, paper stripping etc till next week as the whole of the week is spoken for. Mr TA has his stent change op Monday. I have an appointment Wednesday, then Thursday to Sunday we are in Darlington. The work starts the day after we get back. This is all very bad timing but couldn't be avoided so I must be organised by this coming weekend. I can understand now why I have kept putting off having a new kitchen!

Time for another coffee methinks. Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Take care xx

    Morning all

I'm still in bed at aunts, I can hear the radio so had better get up soon. I'm actually enjoying the peace and quiet!

Going to meet other cousins near Preston today and I'll head home from there, hope the snow stays away.

Take extra care RR, hope work is ok for you.
Hugs to you Gers, think happy memories.

Enjoy your day. Take care. Xx

I share your pain. Yesterday was the second anniversary of the day my Mother died. :(

    Morning all,

It's piddling down. Has been since tea time last night so I doubt if anyone will be going anywhere today but all is well.

Redruby hope all goes well for you when you return to work.

    Holly thinking of you too.

    Hester how's the foot?

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • GERS enjoy only happy memories of your dear dad today. It's nearly 40 years since my beloved dad went suddenly, before his time. I still think fondly of him every day. He was the kindest, sweetest dad anyone could have. x

You’ll be feeling raw still Judi. I hope you can let some peace into your heart. Took me a while to do that.

My recollections of my Dad are high on the happy scale, thankfully.

During the last year of his life I managed to persuade him to move from his 3 bed council house to a 1 bed sheltered bungalow. He was most reluctant but was unable to climb the stairs very well. On the day of the move he went out to the pub from the old house and came home to the new one as DM and I did the move for him. Packed, moved and unpacked!

He was so happy in that wee bungalow and, of course, often said how he wished he’d moved sooner and not been so blooming stubborn.

Thanks for the thread RR, I hope work goes well. Hugs to those in need especially Gers, Holly and Judi.

It's raining here again, I will collect my car today. My foot is slowly getting better but swollen by the evening.

    Have a good day everyone.
