    :rotfl: very true mate.

One big decision after another lately for me. Looking forward to getting it in as I feel every day I delay is a day the 40k is doing nothing!(which it is!)
  • Another question! So I've decided to split it between Vanguard and Fundsmith. Is it cheaper to apply directly to Vanguard (they have a 0.22% charge) or is it easier to just get both through Cavendish (which has a 0.05% charge plus a FundsNetwork Service Fee of 0.20% on top of Vanguard's 0.22% charge)?

If those are the only two you want I would open directly with each assuming you can get one done before tomorrow and don't have any other plans for next years ISA
  • Thanks, Prism. Another potentially stupid question but is there a reason I need to get this done by the ISA deadline? I know for cash ISAs it's to get the interest but how does that work for a S&Ss ISA? It's doubtful I'll have £20k to invest for next year's deadline so is there a big rush to get this done?

You can only open or put money into 1 S&S ISA per tax year so if you open directly that would be two ISA's. If the timing doesn't work you could open with Cavendish, invest in both funds and possibly transfer in later years if you think its worth it to save charges

Vanguard also have a 0.15% platform fee, plus you can't buy Fundsmith through Vanguard Investor, so if you want to hold them both in one place it would have to be via Cavendish.
  • Could I also open up a cash Lisa too this tax year as well as a S&S ISA? I'm turning 40 later this year. I already have a cash ISA which I have deposited some money into this month.

If I can only do one before the deadline is it better to set up a Lisa first to take advantage of the interest?

You can pay into one and only one ISA of each type in any given tax year, where the four defined types are:
    • Cash (including HTB)
    • S&S
    • Lifetime
    • Innovative Finance (P2P)
so you can fund a cash ISA, a S&S ISA and a LISA all in parallel should you choose to....
