Failed car rental identity check

Update:
The prepaid money is fully refunded. Good point for enterprise.
Just spoke to customer service and was informed only airport branch will do id check to non-deplaning customers. So i should be able to rent in other branches with credit card or when actually flying in.
CS also told me they use ID3global for id check. I then queried this company and they said they use all 3 CRAs.
I will definitely check experian and equifax reports. now I guess the problem might be still too little footprint.
I am thinking of getting a SIM-only contract with THREE rather than PAYG. Will that help?
And what about adding my name on water bill? I share it with my GF. I am afraid this will add a financial link in my credit report. Does it worth to this?
You should not do this under any circumstances. Financial associations generally serve no useful purpose to the individual and the concept is abused by the credit bureaus.0 -

Not all Water companies report to CRAs, I'm yet to find one that I've ever had that's reported history.0

Look for a local indie rental company, one I've used a few times I just rock up with my licence and a bill to prove address and away I go, no credit checking. Although the vehicles are old and beat up a bit. Not brand new like the big chains.0

So much for American customer experience.....
If you are an EU national then you can get on the electoral roll - you can vote in local elections but not national ones - go to gov.uk and search for voter registration - cannot post link I'm on the phone.0 -

Really? Why does everything come down to compensation? Yes it's a pain in the neck, but it's not like they're doing it for fun.
Putting silly and obscure conditions into contracts wastes everybodys time and money. One way of discouraging such practices is to ensure that the proponents of such activities end up paying compensation when things go wrong.
I gave up on Enterprise several years ago because it was so difficult to comply with their ID requirements.0 -
on 7th November 2019 same thing happened to me at enterprise car rental ther Hinckley, UK office, I am from India, I have done all the bookings, I am living in UK from 2016, I have taken cars from enterprise multiple times. I moved to a new address 5 months back. And when i tried to book car online it was fine. They came and picked me from my flat, and i reached there office they explained all nonsense and while making the payment all issues started. Address check failed. Then they said I can pay through credit Card, but i don't have british credit card, then i said I will pay using my Indian Credit card, it was working but while paying it dint ask for a PIN, the person at the shop told, it should be CHIP and PIN card. CHIP was there but system Didn't ask for A PIN. SO I WILL NOT GET THE CAR. I have lived in the same address for the last five months. Whoever is doing the address its the problem with their system, they should do it in a proper way. I have already registered my name on to the elecrtola register and i have the confirmation with me. Also on the rental agreement my name is there. On the driving license I have the same address. Now I am wondering what is the actual problem. The only thing missing now is for GAS and electricity its on my wifes name. That might be the possible problem0

Interestingly I had a similar experience at Bristol in may when I was refused a car at the airport because I "could not be identified".
The likely financial consequences of failing to supply a car that had been booked and paid for were carefully explained to the employee, and the result was more minutes of frantic typing and the offer of a car.
I suspect that the original problem was that the employee had typed something as simple as my name incorrectly.0
