Does Paypal charge you if you have negative balance???

Options
Just a quickie im faced with a negative balance on my paypal account for £65.00 ish do they charge admin fees for this ????

Its a long story but to minimise detail, I sold a mobile phone on ebay for £65.
Sent the phone, buyer not received , i cant prove postage  in the mean time i had withdrew the money from paypal account to my bank account, but now buyer of mobile has opened a dispute and paypal have left me a negative balance. Ive emailed paypal but not even had a reply:confused: .

I have in the mean time transfered the money back from bank account but this as you all know takes 7 to 9 days . Am I being charged like a overdrawn fee in the mean time until my money clears my account back to £0?????

Kind regards

Matt

  • I had a very similar problem about 2 years ago - sold a phone for 200 pounds, turned out a fraudulent card was used & I ended up with a negative balance of 200 :( luckily, there were not (and I presume still wont be) any charges for having a negative balance (I had mine for about 6 months whilst I tried to dispute my responsibility in the matter, but lost in the end anyway).

Hope this situation turns out well for you anyway, and don't worry - as I said, they did0t' charge for negative balance.

I'm not sure if there will be a fee.

I hope you now know that you need to send expensive items adequately insured (Special delivery) and that proof of postage is NOT proof of delivery :/

At least you may be able to claim £34 back from RM.

I know it doesn't change it now, but surely the credit card company should have footed the bill and paypal not forced to return the money on your behalf, which you acquired in good faith.

Not really... the credit card people will take the money off paypal... they won't be footing any bills.

Paypal is pretty clear if you look in the T&Cs - basically, they'll protect you from credit card chargebacks if you've followed their rules (confirmed address, seller protection, tracking number) If you didn't, you're on your own.

Paypal only charge you if you do not pay in funds to cover the negative balance within a certain period (can't remember what exactly, may be 30 or 60 days or something). At this point they will add an administration fee (again, can't remember what this is - think it's about £15) and transfer the balance into dollars, at their rather unfavourable exchange rate.
