Keep a look out on sites like Freecycle, people often give away fully working 'solid' vacuums when they upgrade to the latest trendiest cordless model.

If you get it for free then it doesn't matter so much how you look after it... I have a couple of 'spares' ready to be destroyed on DIY jobs.

The older VAX cylinder models had an optional cloth bag. These are a lot better for collecting DIY waste which tends to split paper bags. The cloth bags are also washable (preferably in the sink, not your expensive washing machine :)) which restores the level of 'suck' back to new.

Tesco do their own version of a Henry for £50. They're great. We have one i the house and DH has one for work (selfemployed joiner) and it works well for his work rubbish. He took the bag out and uses it without.

I have a Titan, it takes some punishmentand was good value. The bags however splilt very easily, when this happens dust is fired out the back at great speed.

If the bag splits along a seam, which happened with some bags I bought a few years ago, then tape along the seam before use.

It might also be worth looking for bags from independent suppliers.

Thank you guys! Went with the Titan - it!!!8217;s clearly very cheap and no way I!!!8217;d want this as my main vacuum (the main attachment is just terrible) but for thisbts absolutely perfect! Really powerful and loads of suction.

I!!!8217;m trying to figure out a good way now to attach either the Dyson or Miele head to this one :D

After reading this thread, I just missed out on a Titan on the local Facebook page, by about 2 minutes (I'll be doing renovation work on a new home soon). It had only been used once, and was just £20. Then I did an online search and found the Titan for £35 new on Screwfix (might have been as a result of Post #6, above), so if all else fails, that'll be my next port of call.

I see you've now made your purchase, but in case anyone else has the same question, I can recommend the Wickes wet and dry vacuum, approx £40.
It is Henry style but designed for dirty jobs. I bought it to attach to my sander for woodworking but I also use it for things like hoovering out the fireplace ash etc and it is great.

It's currently showing as £50 on their Web site, but thanks for the recommendation.

pick up a Henry from a facebook buy and sell site. You can use them without the bag for more sucking power.

We’ve replaced the Miele with their EcoLine range and am really happy with it around the house, but I’d like a second, cheaper vacuum which we can use for other things.

Tesco have a ‘cyclone’ bagelss vacuum which looks good for £49 but I can’t find any reviews. Can anyone please recommend a cheap vacuum which is super durable? Thank you

Not sure why you are being so tight, I bought one like this.

Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaner Vacmaster Power 1500W, its great.

Davesnave - Henry has been emasculated by EU rules, but you can still get Charles who has the original 1000w motor.

I hope no one gets reported for breaking the law :)
