Shower cubicle

We are thinking of replacing our bath with a 'walk in' shower cubicle - but have no idea where to start looking for quotes and fitters ...
Our bathroom is set our weirdly - with a window on the long side - which is where the bath is currently - I think that this will cause problems with the siting of a shower cubicle ?
Also - the reason for this "conversion" is that I have mobility problems - so assume that it will be VAT free ?
Any suggestions ?

Walk into any branch of any reputable merchants and talk to the people behind the desk - they will talk you through the options and have many contacts for fitters.

Try places like City Plumbing, Plumbase, Travis Perkins, Buildbase - avoid online.

Right - so avoid PREMIERBATHROOMS etc ?
  • Play with this https://www.diy.com/bathroomplanner/ or similar then do as Ruski says

These are 'specialist' companies, who, IMHO, take advantage of those who they target.

Nothing they push will be unavailable from merchants that I've mentioned above, walk in shower baths, trays 1700x700, showerwall panels (other merchants are available in the interest of being unbiased - they are just the ones I use)

As an example, a friends M&D were looking to do exactly what you have described and quoted c. £11k.

I quoted for the same specification + extra details at £4k.

Please bear in mind that companies, especially 'specialist' are there to make money - sometimes a ridiculously massive markup, which make me quite angry if I'm honest.
FYI I add 10% on cost (markup), sometimes less ;)

Consider going to a complete wetroom from the outset, this can be much more effective if the bathroom is small as it gives you more space to manouvre a walking frame or wheelchair. You may not need it now but ...

Good idea - yes - I will investigate costs .
  • I did look at such a conversion for my elderly parents. IIRC the council would part-fund (this was in Scotland) adaptations to keep peeps in their home and had their approved fitters - obviously some kick-backs were involved.

We have savings - so I doubt whether our council will pay a penny....
