Lost disk space after deleting large image files?

Hi,
Just wondering has anyone else encountered this problem on windows 7.
I had 95gb off free space on my C drive SSD, I deleted a good few old Acronis image backup files both from another drive on my computer and also two external drives that I use for backup.
I made sure that the recycle bin was emptied as well, some of the files were too large for recycle bin and I got a message to this effect and if I wanted to delete permanently which I did.
I was surprised to find then that I only had 11 GB free on my C drive instead of 95GB, even though recycle bin was empty.
Running Disk checking for errors and drive cleanup or restarting the computer made little difference.
I managed to solve the problem by restoring a recent Acronis backup, but just wonder if there is any other way to solve this when something goes wrong and free space is not showing correctly?

Don’t know, but try something like Tree size or Wiz Tree to show you what’s taking up your disk space.0

Download and install CCleaner. Run that. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Did you use Shift and Del , or have they gone to the recycle bin, plus if acronis is still running the deleted ones will be "open" until you reboot.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I would think along the lines of volume shadow copy and Restore points - the Restore Previous Version option.
Also acronis may have made them and not deleted them.0
