New build; extras on completion & solicitor fees

Hi, can anyone advise please, we!!!8217;re purchasing a new build and have to pay for extras on completion.

We will need to pay for these via credit card (and then repay over coming months), this is due to the builder telling us originally that the property would be ready in November (which gave us plenty of time to save) and then pulling that forward to end June when we went in to sign paperwork!

Anyway, I!!!8217;ve just seen the following on paperwork from my solicitor and not sure if this is normal (do you always pay VAT on extras?); Payment of all charges and disbursements by credit card will incur a fee of 3% plus VAT.

Is anyone able to advise please? The exras will be Amtico flooring, carpets, security light, fee additional plug sockets and worktop.

Many thanks

That statement is ambiguous, it seems VAT is only payable if you pay by CC? Seems wrong.
The 3% surcharge for CC is standard. Can someone (parents?) sub you the money its not that long between June and November.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately borrowing from parents isn!!!8217;t an option. I!!!8217;ll have to wait for my solicitor to open on Tuesday and get them to clarify. Hopefully the price that the builder has quoted me already for the extras included VAT.

    Surely it's illegal now?

Although it might depend on whether the contract was signed before 13 January (I'm not 100% sure on this)
