I've posted on this before but come down to two choices.
One is the Sony DSC-W80, which I have found for around £130 but without any MSPro (about £150 with 4GB)
The other is the Sony DSC-T70, which is around £200 including 4GB of MSPro.
Obviously the T70 is a higher spec, but zoom etc is the same. Apart from the 'smile' thing that it has, the only obvious difference (to me!) is the T70 is 8.1MP and the W80 is 7.2MP
Is the less than one MP worth £50?

Well, since this is money saving.. i'm gonna say buy a brand that doesn't use propriatory memory
One of these would be nice:

But i know you didn't want that answer, so i'm gonna say.. save your 50 quid, you won't notice the difference once you've printed them out, or even displayed on your PC once scaled to your monitors resolution0 -
Consumer cameras are suffering from this "megapixel" craze, buyers assuming that higher is better - it isn't. Much better invest in a camera with quality optics than one with the highest megapixels. 8 is pretty high for a small compact.
You'll be able to print out ar 7x5 and 8x6 no problem at all with 7Mp, you just need to look at the camera and lens specs and decide from that.
Have a look at the reviews here to help you decide:

I would go for the Panny because it has stabilization, can achieve sharp zoom images even when your camera is not held 100% stable.0

Remember though that image stabilisation only compensates for camera movement/shake, mainly when using a slower shutter/in low light (fast shutter/good light shots wouldn't need it at all), but it can't freeze the subject movement. So if you are shooting wildlife or a group and the subjects move quickly, the background might be sharp, but the subjects will be blurred.
It's a common misconception, people buy cameras/lenses with IS technology and are surprised to find when they shoot ib low light, for example indoors at a party without a flash, some people in the photos appear blurry.
Completely agree about the proprietary memory, it's a pity Sony still insists using the ridiculous Memory Stick technology as some of their cameras are excellent. If this bothers you, then choose a camera that uses SD ,xD or Compact Flash, made by 90% of manufacturers.0 -
I have a panny, the FZ5 (big 10x zoom thingy). The stabilisation basically means I can get away with long zoom shots without using a tripod. Ah.. i love my camera, it might be 5mp but its got a damn good lens on it0
