Right time to switch?

Hi everyone

i've got my gas and elec with Atlantic who i've been with for 12 months - at 13 months they send a refund of a months payment - in my case £110 so not a bad deal!
i want to switch to BG after checking the cost comparison and they are a bit cheaper at the mo - with the £80 Quidco cashback its too good to miss!
However don't want to miss out on the refund/cashback from Atlantic either!
so my question is how long does might it take for BG to contact my current supplier re the switch (as notice the Quidco deal runs till 2nd November)
also can't remember how long it takes to switch - does anyone know?
thanks CHI ;)

In the middle of a switch right now and apparently they will not inform your energy company until the 7 day cooling off period has finished. So if you applied tomorrow, they would not inform your incumbent energy company until the following Tuesday. In terms of how long it really does vary as to if your current supplier objects or not. If not, it can take as little as 3 to 4 weeks but, as has happened with our gas, it can take double that if the supplier objects (only possible if you have a debt with them or if you are switching with an incorrect meter number which very rarely happens).

    Hi,

They will register you with the local regional distributors MPAS who will then inform your old Supplier. Whilst this can take 7 days, it will have a change of supply date which will be the date you agree to change Suppliers - the date they make the application for your supply. So, it depends if your 13 month hits before the change of supply date because the registration date will be the cut off point. If your 13 month cut offs at the end of Nov, and you go via Quidco before the 02/11, then your change of supply will be going through before the end of Nov.

CoS is a quick process, it's all the communication in the background between Suppliers & Agents thats takes time. So, on average no longer than 6-8 weeks but the date of handover is the registration date.
