    Congratulations!

We got married last week so all the planning is still very fresh in my mind.

We got sparklers rather than confetti but our photographers brought some confetti so we do have a couple of photos with it. They grabbed a few people to throw it so we didn't need loads.

You might be able to skip the place cards and save a bit there too if the table plan has names on and you don't mind people picking which chair they sit on at their table. Vistaprint can be great for invites because they have loads of templates and are constantly doing offers - might work out cheaper (and less time consuming) than doing your own by the time you factor ink and paper in.

My dress was a sample that I got for less than trade price in a Black Friday sale that we found out about on FB. If you don't mind second hand there's also eBay etc, a site called sellmywedding and charity shops seem to be getting in on the act! A friend's wife got hers from China and it turned out great, but personally I wasn't willing to risk it. Don't forget about alterations; mine were £100 which seems quite cheap compared to what some spend.

We didn't bother with a florist and saved £1k+, but splurged on our wedding cake and still have quite a lot in our freezer (ready to distribute when we go back to work next week). I may have gained some weight recently... :o We also had a table with pick and mix sweets which was hugely popular and we don't have much of that left. Given the cake and sweets we didn't have a desert course, just starters and main which were served 'family style' - we hadn't split day/evening guests therefore had one 'meal'.

Things we had but could've cut out were a late night snack (bacon butties) - the room had emptied out a lot by then as most guests were older or had young kids, and we were all stuffed - and the guest book because not many signed it. I ended up writing messages from cards in there to fill it out a bit!

Watch buying decorations etc because it's way too easy to buy more and more and more, especially if they're cheap. We have more copper lanterns upstairs than anybody needs. :rotfl: Also whilst DIY can be fun, it can be a PITA when you're spray painting 30+ £1 white lanterns copper the weekend before the wedding. There were a couple of bits I had to get via Amazon Prime because my DIY attempts didn't work out a couple of days before.

Good luck and enjoy the journey :)
  • Congratulations! Your theme sounds incredible!
For a budget dress check out ChiChi London or ASOS. Mine is from the ChiChi London website and it looks so much more expensive than it was. Plus the comfort of trying it on in your own home.
I tried a Bridal Outlet and their prices started at around 300ish and I didn't seen any I liked.

Congratulations! :D A few MSE tips from our wedding: don't buy anything with the word "wedding" in front of it, for example we had circular mirrors under our table decorations, they were £5 each on a speciality wedding site, £4.99 for a pack of 4 in The Range. I made my own bouquets, buttonholes and table flowers with supermarket flowers. I watched several You tube videos, ordered the few materials I needed online and had a practice run a couple of weeks ahead (which proved I could make them two days ahead). It's not rocket science! We didn't have dessert - we had an M&S wedding cake which had a fruit, a chocolate and a sponge layer so served that. There's a site called Lindy Bop (think I've got that right) that sells lovely red/white or navy/white spotty 50s style knee length dresses you might like. HTH :D

Do you mind me asking how the cake was? We're getting married in Oct and have decided on putting together our own cake with the M&S tiers and putting our own decorations on.

I purchased a laptop using our wedding savings.

I spoke to my fiance about this as it was our money and I didn't want to be selfish but I kinda 'need' a laptop as my desktop set up runs horrid and is basically just a keyboard plugged into a tv. No, seriously. I need it for my actual work and my side business.

So because of this, I have decided that I will save up a starting emergency fund and will start saving properly for the wedding when the fiance can start putting towards the wedding too as that way it's fair on bith parts. I will be saving all change towards the wedding in my little frame though.

The finance is saving for a car and insurance etc... as he is in the final stages of learning how to drive.

We aren't in a rush to get married either. We know we have each other and we're only what the other person "wants" . I will be buying tiny bits for the wedding here and there as and when but it's not so much of a priority.

It's just simply not the right time for us to get married as there are other things we need to buy or want to do before we say "I do" .

Plus, I'm going through some hard times with family - my granddad has alzhimers and is in the last few days/months of his life which I still really hard for me to get over or to come to terms with and to accept it.

Sorry and hope to return soon
