Thank you for your help. I am planning to move quite far away as non estate houses are very expensive here. I have selected detached, no new builds and use the map search and will continue to search this way.
I just thought that there may be a site that offered this option.

Why don't you ring a few local estate agents and tell them what you are looking for?
  • Thank you, it is just in the planning stage, my home is not on the market. It is more finding an area that I like and the perfect property that I can afford. I work from home and am mortgage free so can live anywhere and want to buy outright.

    Will keep searching.

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-51951147.html I found this one by looking at Righmove and getting the available properties up on a map instead of a list. Then what I did was zoom in on the map and pick a property that didn't appear to be near anything so out in the countryside. As long as you have an idea of where you want to move to this will work.

Do a Rightmove search. Get the postcode of address... often not available
directly, cos agent wants to control viewings.... but the "check broadband" should always reveal the actual postcode.... trundle over to google streetview/satellite view, and there you go!

While there, Google postcode and check for crack dens. There's a way of googling nearby postcodes... try googling that.

Define "estate" in a way that you know EAs will infallibly tick on RM. They don't even always tick the correct type of house/flat/whatever...

The only foolproof way is to just go with a wide area, then whittle down manually, and use the save list. Anything else runs as high a risk of false positives - excluding interesting places - as false negatives - including ones you don't want.

I too think you'll miss things if you try to filter too hard.

For example, in my village, there's a couple of small estates, but to reach them means passing between houses that were there long before the developments arrived. So, estate houses are now cheek by jowl with houses of varying ages that were individually constructed.

My own house is close to a development of 14 rural properties, which could be seen by some agents as an 'estate.' Although we share the same postcode, that's really where the similarity ends. They have 'upside -down' layouts, shared areas and little private courtyards, while we have acres of land, outbuildings etc.

Hope you find somewhere that you like. It'd be a handy filter as would many - I often find I still get unsuitable properties showing even if I've ticked the filter not to show a certain type

As others have said, the simplest method is to use the map function on Rightmove. It's much simpler than looking at individual properties and then seeing where they are on a map.

Presumably, you want to be within a certain distance of civilisation?

You can usually tell by the first photo on the list of adverts if it's on an estate or not. If it looks like it's made of lego - yes. If it looks nice, probably no.

I usually use Zoopla and put rural with no near neighbours - not exactly what you want I know.

Works fairly well for me though.
