Missed a phone call earlier, no voice message was left. Googled the number and it came up with a company called AIC, apparently a collections agency that buy old debts from banks. The worrying thing for me is that it appears they don’t contact people without good reason. I’ve only got 2 bank accounts that are both in credit and one credit card which I pay at least the minimum amount each month. I’m now worried that maybe I’ve forgotten something way in the past that might be rearing it’s head, that I’ve got no idea about !
I’ve seen people sending off CCA’s to try and find out more, others have refused to deal over the phone and only by mail.
Any advice much appreciated

Only respond if written too.
DCAs commonly make errors.
Its the provit letter you send, available from the stickies, not a CCA request.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thank you for the quick reply.
Been racking my brains and the only thing I can think of is maybe a Natwest account I had which was in its allowed overdraft (about £50 overdrawn I think) and I never ever used it again, that was about 15 years ago though now. I!!!8217;ve never heard anything from Natwest, there!!!8217;s nothing on my credit reports or score, could it possibly be this ?0 -
if it is and you have had no contact at all for at least the last 6 years then its statute barred.0

I haven’t had any contact from them, but saying that, i have moved about four times since I last used the account and didn’t inform them, so for all I know they may well have attempted contact. Would that change things ?0

Doesn't matter how many times they tried to contact you. Only counts for the purpose of a debt being statute barred or not is if the debtor acknowledges the debt in writing within six years. If you haven't, then it's statute barred.0

But, and this is an important point, you must write and tell them its statute barred, otherwise a court claim can still be pursued, it may be sent to an old address, so you will not know anything about it, and you end up with a CCJ for a statute barred debt.
If they ever bother to write to you about it, then send the SB letter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Like I say, I am not even sure what it is about, but that could be it. It may even simply be a wrong number.
So do you think if they ring again I should tell them to put it in writing to me, but I certainly should not give out details like my name and current address over the phone. What happens if they send something to the address that I have since moved away from, I will have no way of knowing if they intend to start some sort of proceedings ? Why do banks pass on debts if they know they are statute barred and how can a CCJ be issued for such matters ?
Thank you for your continued help with this matter0 -
I don't think you can have it both ways with regards to the address. You either tell them the new one and get the details in writing or refuse to tell them and take the risk of further action. If it is the 15 year old account its statute barred but if it is something else it may not be.Aiming to make £7,500 online in 20220

It must be that account, as the only other debt I have is on a single credit card which I have just balance transferred and always make my monthly payments.
The worrying thing for me is how they’ve suddenly rung my landline number, but I can’t ring Natwest to find out if indeed the account is SB, in case it isn’t and that’s me admitting to owning the account. Are overdrawn bank accounts normally cancelled off after a certain amount of time ?0
