I haven't seen a charity shop willing to take them for a while, but it could be worth putting them on Freecycle or Gumtree because I HAVE seen a few craft projects using them. Knitting with videotape anyone?Signature removed for peace of mind0

I've seen some rare and early titles fetching silly money but if its a film 99% of people will have heard of then yes, its likely nobody will want it.
This site runs through the options: http://www.reducereuserecycle.co.uk/where_can_I_recycle/videotapes.php0 -
Thank you Sue and Lofelectronic. Just as I thought. I think a couple of them might be unusual but as I don't have a player they have to go.0

I have some as well Fruittea, but they are unsellable and also not wanted in charity shops. They were advertised for 'free to collect' locally and no-one replied. They are not even recyclable, so they end up in landfill.
I have hung on to mine for a long time, waiting to hear of a way to safely dispose of them. I fear that as soon as I dump them I will shortly hear afterwards of somewhere I could have taken them.

Mr S insisted on hanging on to our VHS tapes because he also insisted on keeping our 14" (analogue)tv/video player combi.
That was several years ago - and he hasn't watched one yet!0 -
Yes, Silvertabby,
That's the way it worked out for us too, for a while, before we moved house and dumped the VHS recorder, which had stopped working. We had kept the Betamax recorder too, and that went to the dump as well. The advent of the disc player took over.
The tapes still might be of some use, but it's finding the (one and only?) outlet! So far no luck, and I've been asking and advertising the tapes for about two years now.0 -
I'd be interested in finding out if there is anywhere who could make use of them - even for a craft project. We have circa 500 video tapes and the same probably in audio cassettes in attic/garage.....they are all Bollywood and some are rare0

It's POSSIBLY worth asking at your local Scrapstore (google that plus your town / city / county to find yours). They might know people who are likely to be interested in using old videotape for craft purposes, even if they don't want them themselves. As I say, I have seen knitting done with old tapes.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Just put the rare ones on eBay.
The others separate on a different listing.
Surprising what sells......curl girl with a space - even though there is no space in my cupboard!!!0 -
I found someone on my local Freegle last year (or poss 2016) who was not only interested in the videotapes I was offering, but only took my unwanted videoplayerIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
