  • Thanks Keith and well noted. Why shouldn't I use recorded/signed for?

Because they might refuse to sign for it and then it isn't delivered.

Just get proof of postage. The legal presumption is once something is posted it arrives on the 2nd business day after that (if 1st class).

  • Hi everyone -

I would just like to update you all on this.

CEL dropped the whole case yesterday. They were due to pay their court fee's by 3.30pm on 7th August, which they did not, and then the court informed me the whole case has been dropped as CEL pulled out.

This is a massive relief, and quite frankly, a huge success thanks to all of your help and input, and my sheer determination to not let these cowboys take money off me. It's quite obvious that this is a business model for them, a they make a fair profit from people paying them in the hundreds, scaring them with red letter tactics. However when they see that people aren't giving in, they most likely realise its going to cost them more than the money they are asking for from the defendant, to pay for a solicitor on the day. Correct me if I'm wrong, but either way, WOOPIE!

    Great news:j

This is what these idiots do on a regular basis

100% correct with your thoughts, CEL are just money bandits
and one of the worst of the parking scammers.

Answer for CEL problems....... STICK TO YOUR GUNS

They use the "TRY IT ON SCAM"

Just one of the BPA's approved scammers and rogue traders
  • "Just one of the BPA's approved scammers and rogue traders"

So they are approved by the British Parking Association? I don't get it though ...

Basically if it's the council, or the police, or government funded such as TFL, you should pay it, or yes, bailiffs will come knocking. Any other company, just ignore and play ball if a CCJ is issued? It's such an ambiguous industry.

No, you must not ignore it.

If you had ignored your court claim CEL would get a Default County Court Judgment against you and can then enforce that judgement by using bailiffs if they wish.

    But anyway... well done.

It's an unregulated scam industry and we hope that the
new code of practice being introduced by government,
    will scupper them

The BPA by the way helped set up POFA2012 with
a nutcase in government, which is the biggest mish mash
going ..... The BPA do have a lot of scammers as members
but the BPA like scammers membership fees

Basically if it's the council, or the police, or government funded such as TFL, you should pay it,
    Police tickets, generally yes.

Council or TFL, not to be paid without trying and informed and detailed appeal through all stages (usually). Pepipoo forum is there to assist with those and most are appealable and can be won, IMHO.

In fact I am about to appeal yet another TFL one for my niece about a red route, after winning one for her last year about a box junction. She has a high chance again IMHO.

I also won a Council PCN appeal three months ago - mea culpa with bad Blue Badge display when distracted by my passenger - and it was easy. Never lost one yet.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
