My wife's father had glaucoma. My wife has just (in the last two months) been diagnosed with glaucoma. Our daughter in the RAF has recently been for an optical test and was able to tell them about this and requested a glaucoma test..........for which she was charged.
I think I'm right in saying she is asking for reimbursement, but it seems she may have gone about it the wrong way. Had she been referred for a glaucoma test, then the Military would have funded it, but as she took this route, seems not. As I understand it, it would have been odd when having an optical test, to not mention the family glaucoma trait, so basically it appears to be unfortunate, that is, unless someone can advise.
Minor problem is that she is currently deployed overseas.

I've been retired for a while now, but it used to be that you obtained a 'chit' to give to an approved optician at the time of your appointment.
This covered the eye test, plus a pair of NHS-style defence glasses, plus special lenses to fit inside your respirator (gas mask) but obviously not designer specs. Most people - including me - took the defence specs to wear on exercise so our expensive glasses wouldn't get damaged!
I would have thought that the 'chit' would also cover the cost of a glaucoma test if needed?0 -
