Travel insurance and Cancer

Options
Can anyone advise, please, on the best deals for travel insurance for someone with cancer? My wife has been advised by her GP that though she has cancer she can travel in Europe, but travel insurance quotes from the usual insurance companies are ridiculously expensive. Are there any reasonably priced "cancer specialist" travel insurance companies out there?
Could Martin devote a special report to this issue? It must affect quite a few people.

When my wife had skin cancer many years ago the hospital gave her a leaflet with various contacts for help, support and amongs these were insurance companies who do cover this problem, sorry do not have the said paperwork now but i am sure something will be available from your gp,s surgery.

We have a similar health situation. My wife has had cancer and my medical history is complicated. After much digging around the best deal we found for cover in Europe was Eurotunnel travel insurance.

They have a different approach from most travel insurers. Put simply you have to meet a few simple criteria. If you do then they'll provide cover at a very competitive premium. We paid £78 for annual cover for the two of us.

You don't need to be travelling with them to take out their insurance.
  • If you speak to your local Maggies centre (attached to the cancer treatment centres at the hospitals) they can give you a list of the companies that cover those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Depending on the type, we arranged for travel insurance by declaring my daughters cancer but excluding it from the insurance it as due to the diagnosis, it did not need to be covered (this was advised by our consultant radiologist) so may be worth checking with them too.
  • Many thanks; this is most helpful.

  • Oh! Thank you. I had looked on MSE before posting on the forum, but for some reason hadn't found this article. Thanks again.
