Fraud prevention contact

Options
A bizarre question. Are there any banks that just text instead of calling for fraud prevention? I ask because my recent Tesco experience of missing their call lead to a 30-minute call and I'd rather avoid that in the future and just be able to reply to an SMS with a "Yes it was me."

I had the same from Tesco the other morning after using Uber at 5am to get home from work. Had to ring them up, luckily it did not result in me sitting in the taxi being unable to pay as I think Uber take care of all payments, rather than the drivers being alerted to non payment.

I also made a large purchase online with my TSB debit card recently and they sent me a text asking me to simply reply "YES" if the transaction was authorised.

I did have to wait 10 minutes before attempting the payment again, but I did not need to ring them up.

Not sure if it!!!8217;s the case anymore but Santander used to offer such a service too.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

TSB send SMS with that kind of option if you make big transactions or unusual ones.

I got a text (Halifax) about my CC from someone misusing it, they blocked a second attempt by the person to buy something though the first one annoyingly went through so had to get that bounced. Still needed to ring up about cancelling it

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Santander send a text message telling you when they suspect suspicious activity on your account. They then send a second message with the details and to reply yes or no depending on whether you recognise the transaction.
The problem I had was knowing whether the text message was genuine so I called them up instead and averted a substantial sum of money being fraudulently taken.

Apparently the message was generated as soon as the transaction was attempted resulting in the purchase being declined.

If you're only replying with YES/NO then you're not really leaking anything right so anyone attempting to phish won't get very far.

I kind of realised that but also like the reassurance of speaking to someone, which I would have had to do anyway as my card was blocked and had to arrange for a new one to be sent.
