Hello all,
I had the kitchen sink & tap changed last week, ever since then I had no hot water in the house. Called the plumber back in an hour after installing kitcken tap,to check if it was any connection he had done wrong. But he checked & said no.Our central heating seems to work fine. But when we opened hot water tap its just cold water coming through.I have a britony combi boiler.
So I rang our boiler cover who came out and changed the diverter . Then straight away we had hot water in the kitchen tap, but after an hour when he left, we are left with no hot water again apart from the bathroom taps.
No hot water in the shower or kitchen . But we are getting hot water in the upstairs bathroom tap.
No flashing lights in the boiler, central heating fine.
Any ideas what it could be please??

Maybe its the 'diverter' again?0 -
Was the tap the correct pressure rating, i.e. is it suitable for use with a combi? When you turn on the upstairs taps, you would see a "demand" light illuminate on the boiler, does the same light illuminate when you turn on a kitchen tap.0

No we did not check for the rating on the tap. We weren't aware of it then.
But there is no lights flashing on the boiler though .0 -
The light I am referring to will not flash. It just shines steadily whenever there is a demand for heat by someone turning on a tap. That is how your boiler knows to fire up, by detecting the flow of water created when a tap turns on. What model boiler do you have?0

thanks for your reply le_kirk.
Its britony combi boiler. Will check the boiler for this light.0 -
Update: we are currently getting hotwater in all the taps apart from the shower. the boiler engineer has said that the heat exchanger in the boiler could have been blocked and they have to flush the exchanger to unblock ! But he is not sure if that could fix it though.
Don't know whether to bite the bullet and get a new boiler.
It is stressing me out0 -
What happens when you run the shower? Does the hot water led light on the boiler? If it does then does the flame light stay lit continuously?

A brittony is not a very good boiler but you need to make sure the issue is the boiler before you consider changing it overwise you may change the boiler and still have the issue.0 -
According to the manual, there is not a light to indicate water flow or DHW demand. There are two lights, one to indicate that DHW has been selected and one to indicate that some temperature setting has been selected. The manual is not good at explaining this. See this link for the manual. See pages 4 & 7.0

let the boiler go totally cold and all the pipes to and from it go cold. Locate the central heating flow pipe from the boiler. It will be one of the larger diameter ones. Turn the hot tap full on. Does the boiler fire up? If yes, grip the heating flow pipe and check if it goes hot,,if so, it may well be a diverter valve issue.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Thanks a lot for your replies.
All the taps seem to be running fine now with hot water, except the shower.
Even with the shower, when my OH took the shower head off, the hot water seems to come through fine, but upon putting the shower head back there is no hot water coming.
So he tried replacimg the shower head. Then,The hot water comes through the shower head when it is in low position . but if you lift it any higher its just running cold water.Sorry i don't know how to explain it. Hope it makes sense.
So my OH reckons we need to replace the shower unit. Would this solve the problem? TIA0
