Hope someone can help. I have Sky coming in a couple of weeks to install Sky Q but have a question regarding the mains cable from the main Sky Q box.

On my current Sky HD box the mains lead is a two pin plug that just pushes in to the back of the HD box. So my question is ......does the Sky Q box have the same connector?

The reason I ask is that I have a large TV unit below my wall mounted TV. All the cables and power leads go through the back of the units and connect up to power in what is now an unused chimney void where my gas fire and fireplace used to be. It's great, but a bit of a faff if I have to pull it all out.

If it's the same mains connector I could simply pull the old HD box out a bit for the cables to be swapped over and the old HD power cable could go straight into the back of the new Q box.

If the Q box has a fixed cable or a different connector then I'll obviously have to pull it all out to plug in the new power lead. I'm just trying to find out in advance whether I need to pull all this out or not before the Sky guy turns up.

Hope that all makes sense.

Can you turn off the power to the Sky box as the engineer may not be happy plugging in a live cable as arcing can occur.

Good point Colin, no I can't but If it's an issue for him I'll do it myself. Done it before never an issue but as you say he may not want to do it.

If he is that worried about then he is in totally the wrong job and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near electrics even in his own home.

No, actually he is in the right job and correct to be worried about it. It isn't the risk of electrocution, it is the risk of spiking the electronics and damaging the new box.
