Bungalow rear extension height limitation

Hi, just wanted to post for some guidance from anyone with experience adding a rear extension to a semi detached bungalow under permitted development (England.)
I'd like to build a rear extension to our bungalow, full width. I am not keen on having a flat roof and would prefer to have a pitched roof on the extension where the ridge line of the extension will be perpendicular to the ridge line of the main house - approximately 5m and at the same height.
I have looked through the PD Technical Guidance and the GPDO 2015.
I note that within these two documents there is reference:
1) ridge line of extension must not be higher than existing ridge line
2) ridge line of extension must not exceed 4m
However, I have read somewhere that the 4m height limitation is applicable only to the section of the extension that is within 2m of the curtilage (ie boundary of the property).
Does anyone have experience with this situation?
In advance, thank you
Scott

I think you have got confused with the eaves height. If the extension is within 2 metres of the boundary the eaves height should not exceed 3 metres. The maximum roof height (ridge) is always 4 metres no matter where the extension is.0

Just get planning permission for the most useful extension you can, zero point to compromise just to fit it into pd rulesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi teneighty, the_r_sole (:rotfl:)
My intention was to start work under PD whilst planning for additional work goes through the motion (I'd like a hip to gable extension too....) - but I do take you point that it would probably suit better to include all work in one application package. Maybe I will just bide my time and be less impatient!
I appreciate it may be a case of internet search/wrong information/inapplicable situation - but I found within Welsh Government Technical Guidance Permitted Development for Householders July 2013 the following:
___________________________________________________
3.10 Advice on measuring eaves height is provided in section 2 of this guidance note.
Height restrictions on the site boundary
A.1 (d) the enlarged part of the dwellinghouse would be within 2 metres of the
boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse and -
(i) the height of the eaves of any part of the enlarged part which is within 2
metres of the boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse would exceed
3 metres; or
(ii) the height of any part of the enlarged part which is within 2 metres of
the boundary of the curtilage of the dwellinghouse would exceed 4 metres.
3.11 The height restrictions in A.1 (d) (i) and (ii) only apply to that part of the extension
which is within 2m of the boundary.

Though I am assuming thats the Welsh Government interpretation of Statutory Instrument 2015 N0.596 - unless there is an ammendment I have yet to find.
(Though...looking at the dates....the SI came out after the Welsh PD Guidance
Thanks for the info!

I did not appreciate we were talking about a project in Wales, I am not familiar with the planning rules in Wales.
I had a quick look at the Welsh technical guide and it is very badly drafted, even worse than the English version and that is bad enough.
It seems to say the height of a single storey rear extension cannot exceed 4 metres if within 2 metres of the boundary and cannot exceed 4 metres anywhere else???? So a totally pointless distinction. However, the Welsh guidance does go on to say about a 2 storey extension that no part within 2 metres of the boundary can exceed 4 metres in height so I wonder if that is where the error has come from?0
