Why are job adverts taken down so fast on indeed?

I have noticed that job adverts that get posted by independent employers on Indeed.co.uk are taken down quite fast. For e.g a job gets posted then within an hour or so it says "job posting no longer available" or something along those lines. Does this mean the job is taken or that the posting was just taken down by someone at Indeed? just curious who is responsible for this?

  • I treat a company whom posts vacancies on Indeed for alleged management positions with severe scepticism
  • My feelings are;

    Employer posts, then realise they need to change job description a bit so hence it expires?. I saw full time Traffic Clerk turn into part time customer service in literally hours.

    Employer is posting whilst interviewing internally or has someone lined up but must do right thing and advertise to the world, again hence quick expire?

    Someone at employer end mistakenly posts down to naughty someone at job board site advertising job they shouldn't??

    Though saying that I saw a real suitable job, Indeed advert requested CV to be posted to employer which I actually duly did do (thinking it strange but safe in knowledge employer did genuinely exist) just used indeed to follow up CV being received - surprisingly not a dickie heard guttingly, then got to see job re advertised though universal job match just over two weeks later - posting on both a little different, the job centre one even got a direct email address!! Huh!! :cool:

    I do also wonder if some of these recruiters/employers have reduced access and whether jobs are pulled when they learn of costing to advertise?

    oddly when I was flicking through my applied recently I notice one job from Dec that had never actually expired and somehow all the employer had done was change interview assessment date and then re advertised come February.....

    Inundated with applications so removed?

    I've seen jobs advertised before where it says this will happen when it reaches that point

    In the past I've twice put a job up on indeed and taken them down within hours. With 70+ applicants as a small company, it takes too much effort to weed out everyone.

    One gripe, just me whingeing here, why do people apply when they don't fill the fairly basic criteria? Half of those 70 would be rejected straightaway; 35 would be still plenty of applicants.

    Maybe this is what happens OP, with not using indeed for posting job ads maybe theres an option to choose have the ad closed if a number of applications received.

    They can see that you have viewed the job spec.

    I saw a job post for someone required for convenience store, and also a post for a job as a kitchen hand/washer upper, both independent employers. They got taken down fairly quickly, which was a shame as most people wouldn't get the chance to see those vacancies because they're taken down almost immediately.

    Perhaps a punitive benefits system which encourages claiments to apply for vacancies under threat of sanction?
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

    I wouldn't have thought this was true with the jobs I mentioned above. A small convenience store or independent cafe, I think, would find it much more difficult to advertise for vacancies apart from sticking a vacancy note on the window.
