Tough Mudder Race No Refund Policies

Hi,
This morning I signed up for a Tough Mudder obstacle race online. I soon realised that I had signed up (and paid £104) for the 10 mile version, instead of the 5 mile version that a group of my friends had already signed up for.
The event organiser has a no refund policy, but will allow you to transfer your booking to another race. Unfortunately, the transfer from 10 to 5 mile events results in me paying the same price (£104), when the 5 mile version would cost me £64 normally.
I don't mind paying a reasonable fee due to my mistake, but £40 is ridiculous.
Am I protected by consumer rights that apply to other goods and services purchased online (14 days iirc). Is the no refund policy legal if I want to cancel within 14 days?
Thanks
Rod

Short answer - no. Cancellation rights are waived for events where they are to be held on a specific date and/or time. You're at the mercy of whatever the contractual T&Cs state.0

Sounds harsh, will they offer you a credit?0

As a mud runner, I would never do a Tough Mudder. They rely on their name the same as selotape and Tannoy.
The Nuts Challenge is deemed as the best OR. I've managed to transfer my place twice, one due to injury and the latest due to snow.
Check the T&C's, but if they say no, then you're out of luck im afraid.0 -
Thanks All, is it as I feared.
I've done several OCRs and wouldn't normally do TM as I think they are overpriced and gimmicky; just doing this one as some friends were.
My best option, ironically, given the above, is to defer my entry to another full distance event and then book the short one seperately. So, looks like I'm doing 2 TMs this year!
Haven't done Nuts yet, but can heartily recommend Nuclear Races, especially if you prefer obstacles to running. They have a fixed location, which allows them to offer great value and LOTS of obstacles. Although it's another big name, I still feel Spartan get more right than wrong too.

for fixed date events isnt it the event runners responsibility to mitigate any losses and so if they can resell the deferred space they are able to refund the difference requested?0
