I have an EPSON Stylus SX415 printer that has just started to not feed the paper through and print, i only used it OK a few days ago.

When looking from the front the paper attempts to feed but only on the left hand side it then just stops without actually jamming, just won't continue.

Any ideas as to fault and remedy?

This is the printer: https://neon.epson-europe.com/content/open/datasheet.php?id=3537&cc=GB&lc=en&name=Epson-Stylus-SX415

Thanks

Has anything jammed in that right hand side? Sometimes a bit of paper or something can get stuck that would block the paper path and prevent feeding.

No nothing in it, have spoken to Epson who asked same and eventually told me the machine needs a repair but as it is so old they cannot effect a repair.

As it will probably cost nearly as much to repair as to buy a new machine it looks like I am printer shopping.

Any ideas on a printer? Only need bog standard, as long as it prints, copies and scans, also can use cheap compatible inks in single, (x 4), cartridges.

Unplug it and turn it upside down then give it a good shake! There was a thread about a similar printer not long ago, this cured that one. Its surprising what can get dropped inside a printer.

How often do you use it? If it is only every now and then for printing a laser printer would be a better solution. I had an SX415 and it was forever getting blocked print heads when not used at least once a week.

OK there was something in it, a small USB stick!

It had lodged under the "paper feed" and I could not get at it without dismantling the printer, there is no easy way to access these machines and I pretty much wrecked it before I found the culprit.

So i am definitely in need of a new printer now!

I don't use it very often but would still need something for scanning into the computer and maybe when printing, colour, not sure if laser printers would do the job.

That said I am not averse to buying a printer, (laser?), and a scanner separately. Any recommendations?

Its cheaper these days to have an inkjet all-in-one unit rather than a standalone printer and a separate scanner. Multi-function laser printers do exist but they are considerably more expensive, especially the colour ones.

And I have an SX415 which often sits for months not being used. Number of blocked heads in last seven years: none.
