Washer dryer sold with incorrect energy efficiency

Hi,
I bought a washer dryer from Boots Kitchen Appliances, after much deliberation on which model to get.
One of the reasons I chose this particular machine was that Boots (which is powered by AO.com) had advertised the energy efficiency rating as “A’.
It was delivered on Saturday, but I have just noticed this morning that the energy efficiency sticker that came with it advertises a ‘B’ energy rating.
I have now checked the Samsung website and the rating is indeed ‘B’, and Boots KA and AO.com are both still listing it as A.
I’m really annoyed. Surely this is mis-selling? I’m pleased with the machine but it’s going to cost a lot more to run than I expected. I’ve already sold my old machine, so if I send it back I’m left without, plus all the hassle/expense of waiting for another to be delivered. What are my rights? How best to approach it?
Thanks

you can't tell that from just the A-G ratings when you are adjacent letters.
you need to look at the real data behind the letters especialy the electric and water consumptions.
Also the ratings are based on eco cycles with full and 1/2 loads if you don't use them the letter won't tell you what your use cases will cost.0 -
Have you calculated how much extra a year this will cost you?
Is it £100,£50 or even £10?
Have you looked at the energy rating for your machine and similar sized A rating? The two samsungs I have looked at show wash cycle at 1.04 watts ie about 15p and a wash drying cycle of 6.04 for tha B rated and 5.44 for the A rated, a difference in cash terms of about 7p per wash dry. So twice a week wash/dry including the summer works out at about £7.80 extra. I am sure you have other ways of saving that on electricity!0 -
If don't want it then return it. You really can't decide to keep it and claim it's been miss-sold and expect some form of compensation. The extra running costs are small change anyway.
The time wasting is different. I usually write a written complaint if I've wasted a day because of a company's mistake such as failed delivery or the wrong thing turns up. I always get some money or credit to make me go away.:)0 -
Hi, thanks for your input, I suppose what I!!!8217;m also annoyed about was that I chose this model above other ones which were cheaper because of it!!!8217;s A rating. I don!!!8217;t like being misled. I agree that I could have perhaps looked at the individual kWh but even within this brand and type there were 5 or 6 differing models for sale just in this store. So I!!!8217;m afraid I did use the energy rating as a top level way to filter in/out options. Also I was comparing across different online and offline stores and so I!!!8217;ve ended up comparing genuinely A rated appliances with this one.
I do feel misled, although I do appreciate those of you who have responded so far think that it isn!!!8217;t necessarily going to be a huge impact . My aim of writing the post was to find out what my rights are (if any!) so I can work out what the right thing to do is for me. It may be that this was the best deal anyway and I keep it, but I want to know my rights.
Thanks for your help.0 -

Thanks Shortcrust, I understand what you are saying. I might just keep it, but it’s annoying because as you say if I do decide to return it, then it’s all the hassle and time that goes with it! And if I find the best deal in the alternative with a different supplier, how long am I without a washer? And two days off work for delivery etc.!0 -
Crossed posts....
I do understand how annoying it is. I'm waiting home today for a sofa to be delivered for the third time!
I think if you keep it you're denying them the opportunity to fix the mistake. You can't really do that and expect money from them for misselling. So this isn't about 'rights'. It's about customer service. I would write them a letter saying what you've said here. You're very disappointed, you feel you've made a decision based on their errors, you understand you could have a refund or exchange but you need the machine right now and can't take more time off for a collection and a delivery. You feel badly treated and would like them to consider a goodwill gesture. You chose Boots because of your long relationship with them and their reputation for good customer service, blah blah blah.
I suspect you'd get a few quid.0 -

Thank you, that is a genuinely helpful response and makes sense to me.
I feel your pain regarding the sofa wait for the 3rd time. That sucks!0 -

Did you read the product data sheet and was this wrong as well? If not Boots will put the error down to you.
The terms and conditions on the Boots web site don't cover wrong descriptions but they do say specs are subject to change and they wont pay compensation or lost time etc.
Of course you could return it but the hassle would also cost them so why not ask them for years worth of the extra electricity it will cost you.0 -
I can quite understand how very very annoyed you must be, having made a conscious choice to buy an A and getting a B by stealth.... on the other hand, anybody THAT bothered would be questioning whether to buy/use one at all and just to get a regular washing machine and hang it outside/on airers.
Maybe, in contempt, you can simply be tighter with its usage in the future.0
