You can ask but they are more likely to write it off and sell you the salvage as this ends their liability. What does your policy say about write offs?javixeneize wrote: »Quick question.. if i want to repair my car after a claim, but its more than what the insurance would like to pay, and i want to avoid a write off, which options do i have? Can i ask the insurance to pay in cash the equivalent of the money they would pay for the repair?
It is, if my car worths 10k, and the repairing is 6,5k, but the insurance decides to write off the car (cat d) as it is not a good deal from them, can i ask them to pay the 60% of the car value on cash (6k) and i will pay the remaining part of the repairing from my pocket (£500)?
I think some specialist or classic policies offer what you are suggesting but its not part of normal car insurance.0
