Ideas for making use of a (very) small space

Options
Looking for suggestions to make best use of some dead space in a bedroom.

The room has a chimney breast with recesses of differing size. On one side there is a bedside cabinet; the bed is then wider than the chimney breast so protrudes out onto the other side. There is a chest of drawers in this recess, but that leaves a space about the size of an A3 piece of paper between the headboard, drawers and corner of the recess.

It’s only small but I feel like there must be something I can do with the space – be that just decorative or by installing some inventive storage; it’ll be difficult to access the lower metre though. When thinking firmly inside the box I came up with putting a tall lamp there. Thinking a little bit outside of the box I was considering maybe putting a trellis on the wall and growing a plant up it.

The best thing to do, perhaps in the long run, would be to shift everything and put the bed against the opposite wall. The reason I haven’t done this is because the previous owners left a good quality but substantial wardrobe and there’s probably only one place in the house that it can go, which is where it currently is, on the opposite wall. I’m trying to make best use of furniture that I’ve been given or was left behind rather than buy new so the wardrobe is staying for the foreseeable future!

Any suggestions/ideas much appreciated!

Will get a tape measure out tomorrow to be a bit more precise.

Yes, it's a freestanding wardrobe in one piece. There's a standard wardrobe part behind two doors and then a third door with shelving from top to bottom.
