Legal Cover

I am confused! I pay legal cover for my car, my husbands car and legal cover on my home insurance

I have read that I don't need them all, I only need one which covers them all. I have phone up the home insurance people to ask and they say no, the home ins one would not cover if I needed legal cover if I was in a road accident in my car

Anyone know the truth? I am fed up paying them all and feel a little ripped off!

There are standalone policies from people like First Assist and DAS Legal Expenses. They vary in cover levels but tend not to be competetive on price unless you have lots of cars / properties.

As an example, standalone policy cost is £100 typically.
Add on to home = £15
Add on to motor = £10-25 depending on provider.

So 2 cars and a home = £65 max in my example.

Part of the reason for high pricing on the standalone policy is the type of policyholder it attracts. People who buy a standalone product tend to be litigous by nature and the claims incurred in relation to premium income has usually been a loss maker for the providers who offer these policies.

I would advise you to go down one of 2 routes.

    1) Don't buy it at all and use a firm called helphire that charge £10 after an accident.

    2) Get a free policy (for vehicles) from someone like Adrian Flux (no connection - found from a google).

Of course they will want to send you a no obligation quotation but I think that's a small price to pay.

I thinkthese policies are over-priced add-ons given that you can get what you need after the event for free or a small fee.

helphire are a credit hire company - if you need legal cover for your car then buy a standalone policy
