Paying money in to Barclays

I am trying to send £200 to a friends account before this bank holiday weekend.I went into a local Barclays and asked if I could send money but they said I could do it only via bank transfer.I sent an email to them over the weekend and their customers services said the opposite if I take the persons details to a branch.
My own bank is the nat west and they said I have to get a card reader which would take 10 days to get which would be too late to send the payment.
Has anyone had trouble paying into a Barclays branch ?

Send your friend a cheque in the post.

Do you need a card reader to do online banking ?

Most, if not all, UK banks no longer allow cash to be paid in to somebody else's account, unless you have a paying in slip from them with their personal account details on it. NatWest is your only bank account? No cheque to mail?

that is exactly the type of transaction that online banking will facilitate. If you don't do online banking, why not?

Not all Banks need card readers to do online banking.

I have a Santander a/c that uses SMS codes.

Also I have a Nationwide that uses a card reader.

Card readers can be universal - perhaps others can say if Nat West cards can be used in (say) Nationwide.

They're not universal, but as it happens, Nationwide and NatWest ones are indeed compatible.

Natwest and Barclays do not allow you to pay into another persons account if you dont bank with them.

You will need to go to where you hold your bank account which I see is Natwest and send the money via faster payment (will arrive within 2 hours so latest by close of business Thursday).

If you have online banking then you can do this from home. If you are not registered then just go into local branch and ask them to send the money to Barclays for you.

Dont know about Barclays but Natwest informed me that this change was implemented at the beginning of February. When I went into a branch to pay in a bucket of £1 and I went into Barclays and paid money into Natwest from my bank account I hold with them.
