New roof or not?

Options
I live in a 'traditional' 1930s semi-detached house. Have learned that the chimney stack needs work doing to it, at least re-pointing and lead work, or better taking it down several brick layers.

The question I'm debating is whether to also have a new roof done!?
Well, the scaffolding is already in place. Moreover, better to do it now rather than in say five or ten years time when needs must.
Who knows what the weather conditions maybe be like, and whether the right tradesman is available then!

Even so, it's still a lot of money.

Any idea, how long should a roof last? What's the betting on five, ten, twenty, thirty, or more years from now?

What kind of roof is it and how old is it? Have there been any signs of leaks while you have lived there? Can you see any loose ridge tiles or other tiles, from the ground level?

My house has concrete roof tiles that are about 55 years old. I got some remedial work done in 2008, since when there have been no further leaks.

If I were you, I wouldn't spend money on a new roof unless there are clearly signs it is getting close to the end of its useful life.

As I said it's a 1930s house - original slate roof - so at least eighty years old. Have had work done on the ridge tiles in the past, but to the best of my knowledge no leaks. And we wish it to remain that way. Had enough problems with leaks caused internally!!
