Roofer damaged neighbours roof

We have a semi-detached house. Recently we had a roofer make some repairs to our part of the roof. (the roofs are separated by a narrow flat box gully) While up there the roofer noticed the neighbours hip iron was unstable (all cement perished) so he cemented it in. He did not mention he had done this to either myself or the neighbour. The neighbour is now complaining that the roofer has damaged her roof - the hip does look a bit wonky now so I fully sympathise. I contacted the roofer and he said he would come round and put it right but the neighbour doesn't want this. The neighbour wants to report us to her insurance company..can you explain this? and are we liable or is it the builder who is culpable?
What would the neighbour be hoping to achieve here by going through this route?

They want a new roof and/or compensation by the sound of what they have told you.

I'd agree and I think your neighbour is probably chancing it. If it was loose then it must be from a lack of maintenance. Your neighbour needed work doing before anyone touched it so they'd be in pretty much the same position they started in if they just paid someone now to go up and do it again (if it's that bad).

You didn't do anything anyway, so I'm not sure they're reporting you for something you're as ignorant of as they are. If there is a problem, it's the roofer's problem but no insurer is stupid. If he touched one thing then at the very worst the only thing that needs doing is that one thing. The insurer isn't going to fork out for a new roof if it's old.

Let them carry on. They'll enjoy their premiums rising next year instead of just paying someone a similar amount as their excess to sort it, if it is that minor and they refuse to have him touch it.

    Some people enjoy having problems.
