VW polo 1.4 auto starting problem

I have a V reg polo automatic which I am having problems with basically the car will start 1st time but before I pull away the car is juddering , my problem is if I switch the engine off a short time after I have first started it, it won't start again and my battery light comes on, the car has recently had a new battery and passed its MOT 2 days ago any suggestions as to what it could be?

If you turn a car off within a short time of starting it, it will be extremely difficult to start again, make sure it has run for at least a minute before you turn it off.

As to the juddering, could be a gearbox (clutches) fault, could be the common Polo problem of low compression on one cylinder due to burnt valves, could be a coilpack failing, very hard to diagnose over the internet I'm afraid.

The battery light is supposed to be on when the ignition is on and the engine isn't running.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
