Flat TVs - which have internal power supply?

Options
Been looking at TVs and they seen to have got slimmer & lighter so wall hanging on a stud wall seems an option.
We have a power socket and aerial socket ready installed quite high on the wall expecting these to be covered by the TV so no cables will be visible.

The slimmest 43” set I’ve seen is the Sony KD-43XE8005 a recent model. Then I looked at an unboxing video and was astonished to see the reviewer draw a monster external power supply out of the box.

Back to the drawing board then. But for this model as an example, under ‘what’s in the box’ in Amazon does not mention this external power supply at all.

How can you tell before ordering if a TV has an internal power supply?

The trend seems to move the power supply outside the TV now because they've become so slim, its the only way to do it.

While this has the advantage that if the power unit packs up you can replace it easily as opposed to when it was built into the TV, it makes wire hiding more difficult. However it allows the TV to be cheaper. In theory at least. Plus the heat from the power unit can dissipate itself as opposed to having to be vented from the TV.

You should always look the TV up on the manufacturer site to see what it does power wise; Amazon can be lax sometimes copying this information. But expect more and more TVs to go down this route.

Thanks. My observation on looking into this further is that an 8cm deep TV has an internal supply while the 6cm deep Sony has an external power block. Not a hint of info on either JL or Amazon sites that you need to bear this in mind when wall mounting.

We have three Samsung 32" TVS (different models) and all have internal PSU's - the connection lead is also right angled to make it easier to get close to a wall.

We also have an LG 65" that is internal PSU and right angled power lead.

None of the TV's are more than 4cm thick

Next door neighbor was partially deaf and his tv was wall mounted, causing a racket through the wall, until he got headphones.

I’d be interested to know which 40” + LGs model numbers are 4cm thick. The minimum LG I’ve seen recently is over 7cm.

You can't get slimmer than OLED's and my LG OLED has an inbuilt PSU.
No power brick for these beauties.
    ;)

You go and look at TV's.

It might be worth your while asking on a forum like:

Is it really that big? My 40" Sony has an external power supply that can easily hide behind the screen.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
