They won't be linked by address, only by joint accounts.0 -
You cannot blacklist a house. Or a person for that matter. They don't exist.
People and houses don't exist. I'll have what you are having!
And while in the context of this boards remit, people and houses are not blacklisted, it is important to note that individual companies can can and do blacklist people and houses. However sharting this list is illegal.
Though not being on the electoral role will be the issue here. It is very important for your credit rating.0 -
I don't know if property can be added to a list as such or record to refuse credit or not.
BUT, years ago I lived in my house for over 10 years, and following a fraud issue I could never get credit, it would accept some accounts, give me a limit but soon as it was used, it would revoke the limit and account.
My details were used against ID fraud, never ever got to the bottom just a letter saying they believed my details were used and they had taken steps etc etc.
When I moved, I had no issues at all nor did anyone else, whom also had troubles after.
It was MBNA by the way, who sent me the letter.
The address did appear to be added onto some type of system blocking all credit applications, for anyone.0 -

My boyfriend recently went to get his first phone contract in his name - he's 19 and has never had a loan/debt/credit card/overdraft or anything so essentially he has no credit rating whatsoever. He got declined for a contract and the man at the shop said his house could be blacklisted which is effecting his score. This is very possible as multiple members of his household have had debt problems. Will changing his address on everything to my address which is definitely not blacklisted help this? He stays here a large part of the week anyway. I have no idea how to help him start getting a good credit rating so any advice is much appreciated especially as we want to buy a house next year!
Thanks!
Your boyfriend needs to register on the electoral roll at his current address.
I suggest he also checks the information held on all three credit reference files is accurate.
He can check for free by signing up with MSE Credit Club, Noddle and Clearscore
If he is looking at applying for a credit card use the MSE eligibility checker to see which CC's he is likely to be accepted for?
If he has kept his bank account in order for the past few years, his bank might be willing to offer him a credit card?0 -
Thanks everyone, going to get him to register on the ER this weekend and he's going to pop into his bank Monday to see about getting a credit card - if they don't want too then will see what ones MSE thinks he's likely to be approved for! Hopefully this will all help

I went into a phone shop last Nov and while I 'failed' credit check for one of the national phone networks - before the sales consultant in store lost interest I walked out of there with one of the less known network rolling monthly sim plans. So very bizzare if your boyfriend has had continuous job for 3 years as I remember them asking about employment.
Anyway, couple of months later one of the Nationals phoned me offered to do the same thing.0 -

You should check what cards he is eligible for (e.g. via MSE Credit Club) and there is no need for you to go into your local branch.
There should never be a need to go into branch and do a hard search, ever! Lloyds, his bank, do have a "eligibility checker" online which does a soft search (does not affect credit history) - so don't waste a hard search by going into branch (who banks in branch these days anyways?!).
With no credit history and not being on the electoral roll (it can take a few months to appear on the credit report after being added!), he will most likely need a credit builder card, e.g. Aqua, Capital One, Barclaycard Initial.0 -
He should still check his credit history to make sure there's nothing there that shouldn't be. All of this will be for nought if someone else in his house has been naughty.0

No, it has nothing to do with the address and everything to do with there being no history of borrowing. Clearly they don't want to be the first people to lend him money for whatever reason.Caitlinelle22 wrote: »Hiya,

Apply for one of those "guaranteed acceptance" credit cards from companies such as Capital or Aqua. Doesn't matter what the interest rate is or the amount he's allowed to use on the card. Get him to do some of his normal spending on it, never using all of it or exceeding the limit so maybe if he buys a Greggs for lunch put that on the card for example, and set it up to automatically repay the balance in full every month so he pays no interest. He will then have a history of borrowing and repaying.I have no idea how to help him start getting a good credit rating so any advice is much appreciated especially as we want to buy a house next year! This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
