Ebay International Return

Quick question which I hope one of you lovely lot can answer for me...
Sold a jacket to a buyer in Germany, was sent international tracked & signed
He now says it doesn't fit and has asked for a return, he has not yet opened a case.
Whlst I'd normally just say yes sure return for full refund (albeit through gritted teeth) do I a) have to refund the original shipping he paid and b) refund his return postage? It would mean taking a hit that I can barely afford right now.
It's pretty rare for me to get a return request as I put every conceivable measurement n my listings, this is the first international one I've had so just want to get it right.
Many Thanks

It does make a difference whether you are a business or private seller and what case the buyer opens. Certainly don't refund anything without a case being opened for a start, as you need that to get your fees back.
Assuming buyer does a straight change of mind /doesn't fit return and you are private then you can refuse the return. If you are a business and have a written policy stating buyer pays return postage then you can accept the return and buyer can pay for their own tracked return.
If buyer tries a SNAD claim and states item was sold as the wrong size (or some other similar excuse) then either business or private you will need to provide a returns label.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. (a) are you a business?
(b) how much did it sell for?
(c) if not a business, what refund terms did you offer?
If yes to (a), and it cost £42 or more, you have to offer a refund if it's returned within 14 days. They can pay postage though.
If not, then it's what you agreed to in (c).
If you didn't agree anything, tell them you won't accept returns, and suggest the resell the item on e-bay (assuming you adequately described size)."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
Hi all, thanks for prompt responses,
I am a private seller, I always have 'returns not accepted' as my default on listings,ut I know that this is essentially meaningless if a buyer decides to claim SNAD. On the very rare occaision that I've somehow stuffed up I've always tried to resolve it to the buyers satisfaction.
As a case has not yet been opened I guess I will diplomatically and politely suggest that the buyer resell it, I'm confident tht the size was accurately described with multiple measurements in metric AND imperial as the label in the jacket only had the never-very-helpful 'Large'
Thanks for advise so far, I'll pop back if any further developments2016: No Clutter to Be Seen 805/2016
