240v switch in a 12v circuit
Comments
-
I'm looking for a couple of on off on rocker switches for use in a 12v environment.
I've come across some on ebay that are rated the following
15a 250v ac
20a 125v ac
What current would they be capable of taking in a 12 volt circuit ?
Higher voltage ones tend to have more insulation and higher the voltages the bigger the gap between the two points. Jacobs ladder comes to mind, this vid is a bit ott, but you will get the idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT3vGaOLWqE0 -
No, it's the DC switches that have to cope with arcing, AC current reduces to zero every 10ms.0

So,here's one that on the face of it should do the job

The description rates it at 16amp 12v but if you look on the switch itself it's 16amp 125v and 10amp 250v0 -
Daz2009, what are you going to use the switch for? Also on where are you going to put it? From new, the rectangular switches take a lot more work to fit than the round ones.
The round ones need rear, or sometimes side access to fit, but you just drill a hole.0 -
I'm replacing a faulty switch ......there are no markings on it hence my dilemma0

I'd personally buy the switch for to fit the correct and same hole dimensions, rather than a similar look.0 -
The hole isn't a problem, I just want the correct current rating0

Unfortunately that's an on off switch, I need an on off on mate0 -
There's are 20A @ 12V rocker switches here:

I've no idea what an on-off-on rocker switch is, but here is one 16A & 12V:

What's the difference between position I and II...? Is it just like two switches in one, except that you can't have both on at the same time...?
EDIT: Hmmm... There is no registered business address shown on the 12voltplanet.co.uk website. Isn't that illegal? Not sure whether they're legit or not...0
