Hi, as advised I'm starting my own thread.
Oh and I are no strangers to DIY,
We are now taking on our biggest and last project, this time we need to employ many trades men, really not sure which order to start in.....what would you guys do in which order.
Jobs requiring immediate attention
New roof
RE wire
Wood work replaced/treated
Install wood burners X 2
Install from scratch new oil central heating
Lay floor tiles (kitchen/diner)
Lay new oak laminate (lounge)
New kitchen
New bathroom
Decorate through out
 so just a bit to be going on with....

Personally I would start from the most essential then work towards the ones that cause least issues. Some things have to be done in order such as no point doing the kitchen, bathroom, decorating before the heating, or rewiring.
So I would go with:
New roof
Install from scratch new oil central heating
Install wood burners X 2
RE wire (I would do this after the wood burners in case you need to move any wiring, also make sure you have planned your kitchen sockets etc by this stage)
New kitchen
New bathroom
Wood work replaced/treated
Lay floor tiles (kitchen/diner)
Lay new oak laminate (lounge)

Well the roof is definitely first - assuming it's obviously in need of attention.
My last house was a late Victorian terrace bought in the 1980s and I was told the roof would hold out for about 3 more years and could see quite a few nearby roofs had already been replaced. I think it held out, in the event, for 10-15 years.
But when it Went = it Went at quite a pace.
A lot depends on your personal circumstances. As a single person (ie worse off when in work than a "half of a couple" person would be), who'd had spells of unemployment and I had to take in lodgers to start with = the roof came low priority. The house itself had to be suitable for me to live in and take lodgers in.
As a couple and I expect roof grants (even for unemployed people) have probably been cut by now:cool: = roof first.0 -
