ford focus cmax ECU problem

About 3 weeks ago, my Ford focus Cmax wouldn't start. Green Flag came out, squirted some kind of liquid in the fuel inlet and got the car going again. However, they said that I should get the glow plugs checked straight away as they thought I would have the same problem again the next day. Took the car to the garage, they checked the glow plugs, they were fine. When they ran the diagnostic on the computer they got fault on the fuel metering valve. The garage checked all the usual suspects, changed the fuel filter, checked the fuel lines for blockages/ leaks and also changed a part (sorry can't remember what it was called but apparently it's the most obvious thing to change when you get that fault), That made no difference and when they took the car for a test drive - even though it started this time - the engine cut out after a few minutes and then wouldn't start again. Then they went on to check all the wiring. that was all good. Finally they came to the conclusion that there must be a fault with the ECU. So they sent it off for testing and sure enough it came back with an irrepairable fault. The people who tested the ECU then tried to transfer the information from my ECU onto a reconditioned one but the immobiliser information wouldn't transfer. So...I've been told that the car is dead, unless I want to fork out just over £2K to get a new one supplied and programmed by Ford. Bearing in mind the car is 2006 and has 160K miles on the clock, I am feeling very hesitant as this is such a huge amount of money (that we haven't got! and the car itself is only valued at £1K or so. But the prospect of having to buy a new car (without even a car to go and see it) is not an appealing one, so I'm hoping you might be able to give me some advice and let me know if there is an alternative? for instance, somebody mentioned that you should be able to wipe the immobiliser off the ECU altogether and make do without it. Is that possible / legal? . thanks for taking the time to read this.

Michele

Possible and legal? No its totally illegal to fix your own car.

Buy a used ECU kit and drive home happy, watch those bridges though, trolls live.

Coul also be the pump however you need to get it scanned by a independant and get fault codes my money be on the pressure sensor or wiring to it
