Full Banking Package

I know it’s probably not the cheapest way of doing things and it is not exactly shopping around is it, but I like the idea of all my accounts for example my credit card and current account showing up within the same banking app rather than having loads of different apps.

Barclays and the Halifax both opened me up a full banking package where I get a current account credit card and savings account, The credit card credit limit on both is identical but I rarely use them, and the Barclays and Halifax savings accounts are both 2% APR - Barclays only comes out ahead in the savings department if I have over £50,000 deposited in it, which I’m not likely to have any time soon.

I’m in the process of switching jobs and it is soon coming up when I will have to give my employer a sort code and account number, and to simplify my finances I intend to close down at one of the two banks.

When it comes to your personal experiences which one is more favourable Halifax and Halifax clarity credit card or Barclays and Barclaycard ?

As you've perhaps anticipated with your opening comment, I think I speak for many on here when saying that there's a lot to be said for (a) maintaining multiple current accounts (in case of technical hitches or even unexpected account closure) and (b) going for 'best in class' separately across current accounts, credit cards and savings products, i.e. pick whichever of each is best rather than using one provider for all....

In theory Halifax - if you pay in £750 and month and have 2 DD you can get £3 cash back. The Clarity card is good for fee-free payments when abroad. Depends if either of these are of interest to you.

Most banks show your current accoutn and credit card on the same app, so you could also look at NWide, TSB and Lloyds and see what their perks are and switch there if it looks of interest to you.

Halifax clarity card is better abroad, but that is about it.

Pretty much every bank will show everything on the same app, but if you are asking about Halifax or Barclays only and are not interested in playing the current account game (that is totally fine, though you might get short shrift on here ;)), then it simply comes down to whichever you prefer. Halifax can offer £3 a month if you meet some easy conditions.

I have accounts with both of those, and if honest nothing to choose between them. If I could only have one bank, I would probably go with Tesco because they pay 3% on current account balances up to £3k.

I was going to ask which brand colour you liked the most, but they are both blue!

Regarding cashback, Barclays offers £4 monthly net cashback for £800 pay-in and 2 DDs.

I don't understand why you seem to want a credit card with the same bank as your current account? Yes, of course you can do this, but why? There's absolutely no reason to as far as I can see. Apart from using the same app. But having two apps is hardly a problem is it?

Indeed there are lots of reasons why you should shop around and find the right credit card for your needs and the right current account for your needs. They are, probably, unlikely to be the same bank.

    Edited to add:
PS polls like this rarely give an answer that means anything. I have a Halifax clarity card, but I don't know (or even need to know at present) how it compares to Barclays. My vote, on credit cards at present, would go to Tandem with 0.5% cashback as you go, and, like clarity, no fees for use abroad. So I can't vote in your poll.
