Sly little trap set by insurers? WARNING!

When filling out most car insurance proposal forms, you will find a question to the effect of "Has the proposer ever had any insurance declined, offered on special terms, canceled, etc?" Now most people would assume that question refers to insurances of the type they are applying for. Technically, it doesn't! It says ANY insurance. Therefore, if (say) your life policy had been loaded because you are a smoker or overweight - this should be noted in the car policy proposal form. If you don't, and there is an accident, and the insurer finds out you didn't respond fully to that question, it could be grounds for denying your claim or refusing cover for claims made by third parties against you by voiding the policy. If in doubt, contact the insurer before you answer that question and see what they say.

    You really dont know insurance.

Special terms are things like endorsments.

Whether you smoke or not is not one of those three things listed, and wouldnt come under the etc bit either.

After 37 years in the industry - I think I know insurance. You just didn't understand the observation.

I dont think it is sly. You just need to read what it says and not assume what it says.

foggytown, the one I "like" is the HIV risk question: "Within the last five years have you been exposed to the risk of HIV infection?" A single instance of sex using a condom with a partner in a committed relationship is enough to present a risk and require a yes answer from anyone familiar with safer sex campaings.
