Can you get insurance for a construction project?

With house prices going up the way they are, it looks like my wife and I will probably go into the roof instead of buying a bigger home. Especially as we want to complete the mortgage within the next 15 years.
We're saving cash for a loft extension but with any major project, there is a concern that whoever we employ to build it may mess things up.
I was curious to know whether you can get insurance for a specific project. So if the builder either damages the house or makes a significant mistake that is noticed post completion you can claim on insurance instead of trying to take the builder to court.

If you were a commercial company having work done you would view this differently. In effect you have the wrong mindset and the wrong approach. You are saying "if my builder screws up can I expect a profit making insurance company to come in and sort out the issues? Since the insurance company wants a quiet, claim free, profitable existence this is a huge "ask".
The points you should be asking are can I remove as far as possible, any chance of any defects by running my works in a professional way. The answer is an obvious yes. Have professional help and away you go.0
