Nationwide doesn’t accept cash deposit 3rd party?

Hey,

I just went into my local Nationwide branch in Richmond to pay in some cash into my
Landladys account which I have done in the past. I was told that since Monday they no longer accept cash payments into accounts by third parties. On their website they state you can put in money with just sort code and account number like I used to. How do i find out if this is permanent new rule?

Thanks

    Phone them and ask?

If you're not a customer it shouldn't be an issue, you're not asking for specific information about an account.

They are coming into line with all the other banks.

You will need a bank credit slip with the persons details you are paying.

Why not do it online ?

They sent some letter, maybe last month, saying the terms and conditions of their savers accounts were changing. I'm pretty sure that stated they would remove deposits by 3rd parties, though I would need to double check.

Most banks and building societies have tightened up the rules about payments into accounts over the counter. Now, they will normally only accept them with an official pre-printed paying in slip. It's no longer sufficient to just quote the sort code and a/c number.

It's anti money laundering legislation, primarily. Your landlady should have known about it and told you, but having had a number of landlords/ladies over the years it doesn't surprise me that she let you find out the hard way.

Either do a direct bank transfer, give her cash in hand, or ask her for a few months supply of credit slips if you must deposit in branch.

Totally stupid AML legislation. They could at least specify a minimum under which ID is not required.

I have been trying to send some money from my nat west account to a friends Barclays but both banks told me I need a card reader from now to make payments online bank to bank.
Beforehand I have handed over an account name, number and sort code over the counter at Barclays and the transfer went through.
Apparently now it is all due to money laundering regulations.
