  • Hpw are you connecting to the internet? Via a router?

If so, make sure that the router's firewall (assuming it has one) is on.

If it is connected through a router then I really don't think a software firewall is going to offer any extra security, provided the router is configured correctly.

Except for outbound connections. And I doubt anyone would actually configure a router firewall to restrict outbound connections, the amount of hassle in changing it every single time you installed a program etc would be unbearable.

My daughter connects to the internet via a USB mobile modem, no sure what is called, but as she doesn't have a landline she pays 15 pounds a month to give her access to the internet the USB uses a sim card i think.

So i assume the inbuilt firewall should have been switched on, my daughter and her boyfriend aren't very techie minded as i have had to explain all the protection software to them.

Think every thing i told them was understood, showed them how to update and scan on AVG, and told them to allow windows updates (well i switched it to automatic updates)
