PayPal & Basic Bank Account

Without going into a long story, I've been forced to switch banks, and can now only get a "basic" account.

I joined Metro Bank, but it seems I cannot use it in conjunction with my PayPal account (possibly because the do not allow Direct Debits which PayPal require initially for verification purposes).

Which banks with basic accounts could I use PayPal with. Presumably ones that allow Direct Debits?

Thanks,
Tim

Probably worth researching the options shown at http://www.ukbankaccounts.co.uk/ and/or https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts#best (a quick check of the first on the MSE list shows that Barclays offer DD capabilities), although I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that multiple basic accounts are frowned on so you may need to close your Metro account....

Any of the mainstream basic bank accounts will do direct debits, problem been most wont open one if your already have a bank account, Nationwide is an example of this.

Not sure what the issue is as you don!!!8217;t say but try and avoid any bank or banking group you may have an issue with. Ie Lloyd!!!8217;s or RBS.

You can of course put Paypal as a 'payee' on the Metro account and send money to them that way.

In terms of the initial verification you could call Paypal and ask them if there is any other way you can verify the Metro account (they must have had this problem before).

Metro's basic current account doesn't support direct debits, as per https://www.metrobankonline.co.uk/bank-accounts/products/current-account/cash-account/:
No Direct Debits for this account

Ask Metro to upgrade you to their full account or open another account with someone else - Barclays, Nationwide & Virgin seem to be the most functional.
