Company wants to check loft for mould

Options
Some elderly relatives have received a phone call from a company purporting to be acting on behalf of the government. They want to come and check their loft for damp. My guess is that they'll 'find' some and will have just the product to fix it.

Anyone else had experience of this kind of thing?

No, but I have had lots of people claiming they are calling on behalf of the Government offering some kind of energy scheme. The first thing I do is to clarify exactly what their status is and what Government department they are calling from.

Generally they hang up before I do ;)

It sounds like the typical cold-call scam. I would politely decline the offer.

Unless your relatives live in social housing and it is someone working for the council or housing association then I wouldn't let them through the front door.

If they've already arranged to go round, can some one else be there to show the salesmen the door?

The company have made an appointment for this weekend. I'll make sure there's someone there with them when the salesperson is expected.

Yes, just cancel the appointment. But be there anyway in case they still turn up.

That'd be easiest for them. Unfortunately when they did 1471 after the call and dialled that number it came up as not available. And they can't quite remember what the company was called.
Someone will be on hand at the weekend when they're expecting the caller.
    Thanks everyone.
