Lenders cannot find PPI

Over the past 30 years I have had numerous loans, mortgages and credit cards (counted 15).
Yet everyone of the companys has come back and say they cannot find PPI attached to the accounts.
One company states they cannot find my account even though I have an active credit card in front of me.
another sent me a letter saying yes I had PPI and then i phoned them and they said I didnt.
Like many people I do not have any supporting evidence as most of the cards and loans I stopped using several years ago some even longer. Documents would have been disposed of.
Is it normal that company's say that you haven't got PPI ? could I still of had PPI?
should I still put in a claim ?
Can I get the original documentation from the lenders ?
any help is appreciated I cannot believe I am the only person who never took out PPI with any company especially when I have used many company's.
thanks

It's normal they say you didn't have PPI if they can't find a record of you having PPI.
If they can find a record, they'll say they've found a record.
Most people didn't take PPI, so you may be one of the majority.
How many policies do you think you have taken out?0 -

Which means you can easily tell if you had PPI as you would see the PPI premium on the monthly statement. So, you dont need to ask them.Is it normal that company's say that you haven't got PPI ?
Most people in the UK did not buy PPI. So, yes it is normal for companies to say you didnt have it as the majority of people didnt.could I still of had PPI?
Potentially yes. The data available on the firms online systems may not cover your full history. So, a check of only that can lead to a part answer. Can I get the original documentation from the lenders ?
You can request copies. On closed debts that will cost you £10 per provider under a data subject access request. On open debts, it will cost you £1.
Limitations exist though. Much PPI was added post sale on credit cards. So, asking for a copy of the original documentation wont help. Plus, on closed debts the records may no longer exist.cannot believe I am the only person who never took out PPI with any company especially when I have used many company's.
As most people didnt buy PPI, that puts you with the majority. So, why do you find that strange?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
