I'm all for energy saving, but there is no way that these 11W energy-saving lamps are equivalent to 60W tungsten lamps. I have tried a number of these and they are just too dim. Where an old 60W lamp was OK in the past I can only just about get away with a 100W equivalent energy saver and where I needed a 100W previously I have had to revert to tungsten!
There is also the issue of slow lighting up times. Again, I have tried a number of different makes etc and they all start dim and gradually get brighter. In some situations that's not a problem, but on stairways and rooms I'm just popping into briefly and then switching off again they are not appropriate.0

            pthov,
just out of interest, why do you need bright light when you are only in the room briefly or walking up the stairs?0

Low wattge bulbs are at their energysaving best if NOT switched on and off - I find it best to leave the hall light on during the evening as this gives enough light to get me up and down stairs or in and out of a room which I don't intend to remain in without switching another light on. I turn lights off at the end of the evening or when I am sure that I will not have to use that area of the house again.
This sounds like a ridiculous amount of pre-planning and thinking ahead, but actually it has become an unthinking habit very quickly.0

I also wonder how many thousands of litres of petrol will be used unnecessarily by people making a special trip to collect the free light bulb. They're missing a pledge on that list - reducing paper use by not filling in pointless forms!
I normally go to Tesco because it is closer. It is a 2 mile round trip.
This weekend I may go to Sainsburys because of this offer. That is a 5 mile round trip.
The extra 3 miles will use about 0.5 litres of petrol.0

I do most of the things already, but how do you make sure the fridge/freezer is working efficiently? I have a fridge thermometer in there to keep it at the right temp - any other tips?
 Many thanks in advance.0

Its all stores locals included although the distribution is a % sum according to their normal Saturday sales (If its not obvious I work for Sainsbury in an RDC (Regional Distribution Centre)) if it would not probably get me the sack I could tell you exactly what the amount distributed to each store is!
Get mine tonight as all Sainsbury's direct employees get one as well.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0
