How long after probate settled can debtors claim?

My mother passed away some time ago, at which time I believed I had advised all utilities and also placed a newspaper advert informing the same. Im now being chased for outstanding electricity costs - the company claims it was not made aware of her passing. Probate has long been settled, so I wondered how long after death/settlement of probate, can such a payment be expected or enforced?
Many thanks in advance for any guidance.

I believe it is 6 years. To be fully protected an executor needs to place an announcement in the London Gazzette.

You say you informed them of her death, but if you never received a final account, then you really should have chased that up.

Placing the notice in The London Gazette covers Executors, but not beneficiaries. If the OP is both, then they aren't covered by the notice.

I do agree however that the time limit for claims other than inheritance is 6 years from date of last contact with the Executor.
