Travel insurance when someone else is paying?

Okay, so I have full world wide travel insurance all year round (comes included with my Nationwide FlexPlus account). As I understand it, travel insurance doesn't just cover your trip, it covers things before your trip such as flight cancellations etc.
Some questions regarding cover:
1) What happens if someone else who doesn't have travel insurance, books my flight and then it gets cancelled. Is my flight ticket cost covered under my insurance policy?
2) Same as 1 but what if they do have their own cover. Will their policy cover my ticket or will it be my own?
Thanks in advance

1) I would have thought that the insurance would refund who ever paid for the ticket

Insurance varies, usually proportional to cost.
'Free' insurance is usually low-grade and may/can have many exclusions.
You need to read the Ts & Cs of your Nationwide insurance to understand what is covered. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

It's not really free as I pay each month. However, it does work out to be very cheap overall. I'll contact NW directly to find out though.0
