Faster payments - not so fast?

Hi

I am bewildered by the following situation, was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or could shed some light on the following:

Sending money between my accounts from First Direct to Lloyds (both faster payment providers). Sent the money yesterday.

8.25am - sent a faster payment of £1 to my Lloyds - received instantly (checked online)

8.27am - sent £1,000 to the same account above - not yet received! (checked bank details etc - saved as a payee so same details as the successful payment above)

after 2 hours Called First Direct - they said its definitely been sent and cannot be recovered.

Called Lloyds - no record of the receipt - and no fraud watch on the account holding up the payment.

Help!

Thanks!

Yeah I understand that, just bewildered why the delay given the payment minutes before went through fine. More interested in the system process than anything.

While your £1 advance payment makes sense to ensure you've got your numbers right, it's possible that a £1,000 subsequent payment has set off fraud alarms at lloyds.

I'd anticipate that it will need a human eye to wave it through at some point today.

Fair enough - Presumably that is separate to my account (i.e. normal customer support dept won't have a register that that is occuring)?
  • I'm guessing.

    But yes.

I can remove the guesswork. Customer services will not see any payment if it is in a fraud/investigation/pending queue. They cannot even lie to you about it because as far as they can see it is not there.

I use Lloyds not FD but when Lloyds hold a payment for further investigation it is shown on your internet banking screen can't remember exactly where but it is shown as 'held' even though it has debited your account.

Maybe FD have some equivalent place you can look ? It will show as left your account (hence FD customer service saying it has gone) but might be shown somewhere as held.

Make sure you have the right mobile phone number as contact detail on your First Direct accout.

    This.

If you haven't received it by this evening then FD will have tried to phone you to confirm the transaction.
